Will I need a deep cleaning?
Deep cleanings are recommended for our patients who are suffering from gum disease. For everyone else, a routine cleaning from our efficient, thorough hygienists is generally sufficient.
The only real way to know for certain, however, is to come in to our office for a thorough examination and cleaning. Dr. Dolgow, along with one of our hygienists, will be able to assess the state of your gums and determine whether a routine cleaning will suffice.
If you do need a more thorough cleaning, our hygienists are meticulous but gentle as they remove all plaque, calculus, and bacteria from your gums. If pockets have developed and gum disease is more severe, you might require a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing. This will remove the plaque and bacteria that have settled deep below your gumline.
In the past, this procedure meant surgery. But with today’s high-tech soft tissue laser therapy, the procedure is much less invasive.
